We're very pleased to announce the release of Cloud Server Import which allows you to perform automated imports of your customized VMWare images!
To perform an image import via the UI (all functions are also available via the API) you can follow the below steps.
1. Select the Server Tab, expand your Customer Images container and then select "Import Customer Image"
2. The system will bring up a dialog box where you can upload the OVF and MF files for validation. Note you should NOT upload the VMDK file at this stage. The system first needs to validate your OVF and MF files.
3. Once uploaded, the system will immediately validate that your OVF and MF files meet the import requirements specified above in the "Prerequisites" section.
4. Once you've uploaded a OVF and MF file that successfully passes validation, the system will prompt you to upload the associated VMDK file using the same options for uploading as step #3.
5. Once uploaded the system will validate that your VMDK file's hash matches the has listed in the MF file. This process may take several minutes:
6. Assuming validation is successful, the system will present a "Complete Import" button. Press this button to complete the Import process.
7. The system will then begin the import process of your OVF/VDMK/MF files:
8. As part of the import process, the system will do a further validation check on the image to ensure the VMWare Tools version is compatible with our infrastructure. If the VMDK file does NOT validate, the system will display an error message with the reason for the validation failure.
9. Assuming validation succeeds, the system will display a success message. you can now click "Close" and the image will appear in your Customer Image window so it's available for deployment.
Full/detailed instructions are available OpSource Cloud Community.
Today, image imports must meet the following requirements.
- The Virtual Server must use an O/S currently supported by OpSource Cloud
- The customer image must come from VMware Infrastructure 3.5 (we currently cannot accept vSphere4)
- The Machine Name of the imported image must be unique
- CPU and Memory configuration must meet the following specifications:
- 1, 2, or 4 CPU
- 1-32 GB RAM (in integer sizes - i.e. 1024 MB, 2048 MB, etc.)
- Maximum of 1 local disk sized from 10-250 GB (in integer sizes)
- 1 Virtual NIC
Imported Images must also meet the following requirements that are validated after you upload the VMDK files as described in steps 5 through 10 of the checklist:
- The MF file hash must match the hash embedded within the corresponding OVF file.
- Imported Images must have VMware Tools installed and the VMWare Tools version must fall within the following range:
- 123000 (VMware Infrastructure 3.5 Update 3) through 238493 (current release for VMWare Infrastructure 3.5 Update 5).
Thanks for using the OpSource Cloud!
You mention that "The Virtual Server must use an O/S currently supported by OpSource Cloud" - does that mean we can't upload Windows XP VMs?
